To start training my horse, Elliott, I will need to start training him whenever I can. After school if I have time I will train him then and on the weekends when I can spend more time with him.
To start training him, I first need to keep him calm and get him focused on me, not what is going on around us. Before I can get on him bareback I have to get him to trust me. To do this I will act like I am going to get on his back, but instead I will just press my hands down on him to let him know and understand what I want him to do. He needs to stand still for me and not move or walk around. I will just keep rubbing my hands on his back and shoulders so he doesn't get frightened. This won't take much time, if he behaves. Then I will eventually be able to get on him and ride him bareback.
This is my horses back, so that would be what it would look like when I ride bareback. But to get him used to it first, I just rub his back and put pressure on it. After I do that for a while, if he stays calm and focused, I can get on him.
